It is designated as Guatemala\'s national bird, and its name, ``quetzal,\'\' is also used as the currency of Guatemala. The Japanese name is Kazarikinubanedori.
The total length is approximately 35 cm for females, and approximately 1 meter for males due to the long decorative feathers on the upper tail tube. Males have emerald tail feathers, red belly feathers, and golden crown feathers.
The beautiful feathers were considered so valuable that only the highest-ranking clergy and kings could wear them. They can only be seen in a limited number of areas in Guatemala, and because there are not many of them, it is said that ``if you can meet them, you will be happy.\'\'
